Building Bridges – Connecting with and Supporting Trans Youth

While more and more welcoming space is being made for trans and gender diverse in our world, many of us can feel like we’re struggling to catch up in our learning to be able to support our children, grandchildren and families. In this session, we’ll discuss gender diversity in a welcoming and accessible way as well as some of the actions we can take to validate, support and celebrate the trans loved ones in our lives.

Biography

Amelia (she/her) is a passionate educator and advocate who is the co-founder and Managing Director for Skipping Stone. She has previously held positions with Calgary Pride, as the President of the Trans Equality Society of Alberta and serves as a faculty member of the World Professional Association for Transgender Health. Over the past decade, she has played a role in the introduction and implementation of legislation recognizing the rights of trans individuals at all levels of government. In recognition of her work, she has received the Outstanding Community Impact Award from University of Calgary Law School and was awarded the Grand Heart Award in 2018 in recognition of her significant contributions to advancing 2SLGBTQIA+ human rights in Alberta.
